British Brad takes the win!
There’s something special about watching someone step into the ring for the first time.
Not because everything goes perfectly. It doesn’t.
It’s the months of training, the tough sessions, the mistakes, the small improvements and the moments where a fighter learns to stay composed under pressure that make fight night so rewarding.
For Brad, his first amateur Muay Thai fight was the result of a huge amount of work and a long way travelled since he first started training at Maneema Muay Thai.
Brad’s First Amateur Muay Thai Fight
Brad made his amateur debut on the MNSW Amateur Series, stepping into the ring for his first competitive Muay Thai fight.
Anyone who has trained Muay Thai knows that there is a big difference between training in the gym and competing under the lights.
Brad had already shown plenty of potential during one of our sparring days, but there was also a lot he needed to work on. Like every developing fighter, he had areas of his technique, composure and fight strategy that needed to improve.
And that's exactly what he did.
Rather than rushing into a fight, Brad put the work in.
Eight Weeks of Fight Camp
Eight weeks out from his fight, Brad officially started his fight camp with the Maneema fight team.
The focus wasn't simply on getting fitter. Fight camp was about sharpening the details — improving his technique, developing his conditioning, preparing for the demands of three rounds and making the necessary adjustments to his weight.
He put in the sessions.
He was coachable and worked on his technique.
He took the time to get his weight down properly.
And, importantly, he learned how to stay composed when things didn't go exactly as planned.
That preparation showed on fight night.
Relentless in the Clinch
Brad's fight was three rounds of two minutes, and his opponent clearly enjoyed working in the clinch.
For many fighters making their debut, being pulled into a strong clinch battle can be overwhelming but Brad was ready for it.
He stayed controlled in the clinch and remained relentless with his knees and elbows.
Rather than becoming frantic or losing his technique, he continued to work, looking for opportunities to land damaging knees while maintaining his composure.
It was a great example of how much he had developed since those early sparring sessions.
He wasn't simply trying to survive the fight. He was thinking, listening and executing.
Between rounds, Brad listened carefully to his corner and made the adjustments he needed to make. That ability to take instruction under pressure is something that doesn't happen overnight — it comes from consistently training, learning and trusting the people around you.
More Than a Win
Of course, we're incredibly proud of Brad for getting the win.
But the result isn't the only thing we're proud of.
What stood out most was how far Brad has come since he started training at Maneema Muay Thai.
The Brad who stepped into the ring on fight night was composed, technical and confident in his ability to handle the pressure.
That's what makes a first fight so rewarding for a coach.
You get to see the work that happens behind the scenes finally come together.
From those early sessions, to sparring days, to eight weeks of fight camp, every session played a part in getting Brad to where he is now.
And this is only the beginning.
